Wager types
^list
Straight wagers
Straight wagers are the simplest types of plays. You can bet with a point spread, a money line, or a combination of both. All pointspread wagers pay 10 to 11 unless otherwise specified.
  • POINTSPREAD WAGERS are bets in which there is a Team A and a Team B, and one team is favored over the other by a fixed point spread. If you wager on the favored team, they must win by at least the amount of the point spread for you to win. If you bet on the other team (the "dog"), your team must win outright or lose by less than the point spread for your wager to be credited as a win. If the game score lands exactly on the point spread, it is graded as a "push" and your wager is refunded.

  • MONEYLINE PLAYS are typical in baseball and other low-scoring events, as well as contests in which no points are involved, such as boxing. In a pure moneyline play, you only need to pick the winner, but the odds may vary depending on which team is favored. You will either have to “lay odds” or “take the odds.” If the line is Team A –200 and Team B +180, you will have to risk 200 to win 100 on Team A, or 100 to win 180 on Team B.

  • COMBINATION BETS combine point spreads and money lines. They are most common in baseball, golf, and special proposition wagers. In baseball, they are known as “run lines.” You either give up a fixed number of runs or take a fixed number of runs, both of which will involve a money line. In golf, daily matchups often involve a half-stroke handicap as well as a money line.

Parlays
Parlays are wagers in which you choose 2-6 plays and must win them all to win the wager.

WSEX.com pays true odds on parlays. ALL parlays will be calculated using the following formula:
The money line for each proposition is substituted into (Win amount / Bet amount) + 1), and the resulting products are then multiplied together.

Example: A 3-play parlay of the following propositions:

    Bet #1 (-115) Bet #2 (+160) Bet #3 (-125) Result
    ((100 / 115) + 1) * ((160 / 100) + 1) * ((100 / 125) + 1) = 8.7497
    $30 bet 1.8696 * 2.6 * 1.8 = $262.49

Note: The example payout above includes the return of the original $30 bet.

Teasers
Teasers are like parlays, except you buy points on both contestants. Teasers are available in football and basketball on pointspread wagers and totals.
  • PAYOUTS FOR BASKETBALL TEASERS:

Number of plays 4-pt teaser 4.5-pt teaser 5-pt teaser
    2 Plays $100 / $100 $100 / $110 $100 / $120
    3 Plays $170 / $100 $160 / $100 $140 / $100
    4 Plays $280 / $100 $250 / $100 $200 / $100
    5 Plays $450 / $100 $400 / $100 $350 / $100
    6 Plays $700 / $100 $600 / $100 $500 / $100

Example: If you wager $10 on a 5-play 4.5-point basketball teaser and win, you will be credited $50 ($40 + your $10 wager).

Note: There is an additional $0.10 charge for each totals proposition included in a teaser.

  • PAYOUTS FOR FOOTBALL TEASERS:

    Pro Football:

Number of plays 6-pt teaser 6.5-pt teaser 7-pt teaser 7.5-pt teaser 8-pt teaser
    2 Plays $100 / $110 $100 / $120 $100 / $130 $100 / $140 $100 / $160
    3 Plays $170 / $100 $160 / $100 $140 / $100 $120 / $100 $110 / $100
    4 Plays $280 / $100 $250 / $100 $200 / $100 $170 / $100 $150 / $100
    5 Plays $450 / $100 $400 / $100 $350 / $100 $280 / $100 $200 / $100
    6 Plays $700 / $100 $600 / $100 $500 / $100 $400 / $100 $300 / $100

    College Football:

Number of plays 6-pt teaser 6.5-pt teaser 7-pt teaser 7.5-pt teaser 8-pt teaser
    2 Plays $100 / $100 $100 / $110 $100 / $120 $100 / $135 $100 / $150
3-6 Plays    Same as Pro Football Teaser Payouts (6 – 8-pts)

Example: If you wager $10 on a 6-play 7-point football teaser and win, you will be credited $55 ($45 + your $10 wager).

Note: There is an additional $0.10 charge for each totals proposition included in a teaser.

For more about WSEX Parlays and Teasers, see our Rules and Regulations.

  • CONDITIONAL WAGERS ("If's" and "Action-To's")
Conditionals are wagers that are contingent on each other. You only have action on each leg of a conditional if the prior leg wins (or ties, in the case of an action-to).

Conditional wagers are not required to be placed in order of contest time. The first leg of your conditional may start after a subsequent game has already finished.

For more about conditionals, click here.

  • REVERSES
Reverses are combined "action-to" bets. They are available in 2 or 3 outcomes and have a very interesting payout chart.

For more about reverses, click here.

  • FUTURE BETS
Future bets are wagers on future events, such as a seasonal championship.

  • FUTURES MARKETS
Futures markets allow players the opportunity to buy and sell their favorite teams and players all season long.

    • What is the difference between 1-Pay and 4-Pay?

In a 1-Pay event, the winner is worth $100, and all other places are worth zero.
In a 4-Pay event, the winner is worth $100, second place is worth $50,
and third and fourth places are worth $25 each. All other places are worth zero.

Prior to the event being final, futures can be traded freely. They can be bought or sold throughout the season.

    • In which events do you offer futures trading?

        4-Pay
        Pro Football
        College Football
        Pro Hockey

Live Betting
^list
What is Live Betting?
Our Live Betting, a WSEX trademark, allows you to bet on a live event during play. In fact, World Sports Exchange was founded by options traders who wanted to combine the two most exciting environments around: the sportsbook and the trading floor.

In a Live Betting event, a client buys and sells contracts on the outcome of his/her choice. At the end of the event, the winning side pays off at $100/contract; all other contracts are worth zero.

Prices are updated continuously throughout play, meaning that the value of individual contracts fluctuates based on the contestants' performance.

How do I buy and sell contracts?
Click the "Live Betting" link in the main menu, then choose an event. For most events, two teams (or outcomes) will be listed. Golf is an exception: we try to list all the contenders, so up to 50 contestants may be listed.

To trade, simply click the buy/sell price next to the contestant of your choice. A trading window will open in your screen's upper-right frame. Confirm that the buy/sell button is set to your desired transaction type, and that the market price is acceptable. (The market price is listed for convenience; you can choose a different price without worry, as you will always be filled at the best available price.) Finally, select a number of contracts via the second dropdown, then click "place order."

That's all there is to it. You'll quickly receive a trade response from the WSEX system, either confirming that your order was partly/completely filled, or that it was rejected because the price was too low (for buy transactions) or too high (for sell transactions).

On what events do you offer live betting?
Live Betting is offered on major college and pro football games every weekend, plus Monday Night Football (including Thursday night editions). We generally offer three games each on Saturday and Sunday (including the Sunday night game), but hope to expand this schedule in the upcoming season.

In baseball, we offer ESPN, TBS, and WGN games during the regular season—plus all the playoff and championship games, of course.

In basketball, we offer ESPN, TNT, and TBS games during the week, plus NBC games on the weekend—and again, all the playoff and championship games.

Perhaps our most exciting Live Betting markets are in golf. Every Thursday to Sunday, we open our golf markets for live trading during televised PGA coverage... with prices updated shot by shot!

In-progress proposition bets
  • What are in-progress proposition bets?
These are bets that are offered on games in progress. They include "Who will score next?" and "At-bats," in which you can bet on what a player will do on his next at-bat: single, double, triple, etc.

  • How do I place a wager on them?
You can find the menu for in-progress propositions at the bottom of the interactive menu for the same event.

  • How quickly are they graded?
In-progress proposition bets are graded as soon as there is a result.
