Philadelphia, PA - Tom Glavine picked up his first win of
the season in his seventh start and the Atlanta Braves hit three home runs in
an 8-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Glavine
(1-1) lasted only 5 2/3 innings after hitting a rough patch in the sixth,
allowing four runs on four hits and two walks. Chipper Jones was 2-for-4,
scored two runs, walked and hit his 11th home run of the season while raising
his major league-leading batting average to .418. Brian McCann was 2-for-4
with three runs batted in, adding a walk and a run scored. Yunel Escobar and
Kelly Johnson hit the other home runs for the Braves, who have won just
two of their last six. Blaine Boyer pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing one run
in recording his first save of the season. Phillies starter Brett Myers
(2-4) never got on track allowing eight runs - six earned - in 4 1/3
innings, continuing a five-start winless skid. Chris Coste was 4-for-4 with
four singles and scored two runs, and Chase Utley hit a two-run homer for the
Phillies, who have now lost four of their last six.

Cincinnati, OH - Paul Janish, making his major league debut,
hit a game-winning RBI single in the 10th inning as Cincinnati survived a
bullpen meltdown to take a 7-6 win over the Florida Marlins. After Reds
relievers Mike Lincoln and Francisco Cordero combined to allow six runs in
the ninth inning, Jared Burton (2-1) threw a scoreless top of the tenth.
Florida's Renyel Pinto (1-2) struck out Joey Votto and Edwin Encarnacion to
begin the bottom half. But David Ross and Paul Bako worked walks, and pitcher
Johnny Cueto came on to pinch-run for the catcher Ross. Up stepped Janish,
who drove Pinto's third pitch into right field -- for his first MLB hit -- to
drive in Cueto and propel Cincinnati to its third straight win. Jerry
Hairston went 3-for-4 with a triple and double, while Adam Dunn homered and
Brandon Phillips went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Reds starter Bronson Arroyo threw
seven shutout innings, giving up only five hits and three walks with five
strikeouts, but got the no-decision for Cincinnati, which has won the
first three contests of this four-game set. Cody Ross hit a three-run homer
that tied the game for Florida, whose current three-game slide comes on the
heels of a seven-game win streak.Ricky Nolasco threw 4 2/3 innings in his
start, and surrendered two runs on five hits and three walks.

Flushing, NY - Cristian Guzman drove in two runs as
Washington upended New York, 5-3, in the third installment of a four-game set
at Shea Stadium. Ryan Zimmerman homered while Jesus Flores and Felipe Lopez
each knocked in one for the Nationals, who have taken two of the first three
games in the series. Nats starter Tim Redding (5-3) notched the win by holding
New York to two hits and one run over six strong innings. Jon Rauch recorded
the game's final four outs to earn his eighth save. Brian Schneider homered
and drove in two runs for the Mets, who have alternated wins and losses
in their last six contests. Carlos Beltran added an RBI in defeat. Claudio
Vargas (0-1), making his Mets debut after his contract was purchased from
Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday, was the hard-luck loser. The 29-year-old
righty gave up three hits and two runs over 6 1/3 innings, fanning six while
issuing four walks.

Milwaukee, WI - Juan Pierre went 3-for-5, scored a run and
knocked in three runs, including the tying and go-ahead runs in the ninth, as
the Los Angeles Dodgers stole a 6-4 game from the Milwaukee Brewers in the
middle contest of a three-game set. Blake DeWitt had a solo home run and
scored twice for the Dodgers, who saw their five-game skid become history.
Derek Lowe started for LA and went six innings, giving up four runs on six
hits, but did not factor in the decision. Jonathan Broxton (2-1) took the win
by getting the last two outs in the eighth. Takashi Saito earned his sixth
save of the year with a perfect ninth. Corey Hart went 2-for-4, drove in a
run and scored a run for the Brewers, who saw their three-game win streak
come to an end. Manny Parra added a pair of RBI, while Jason Kendall knocked
in the other run in defeat. Parra also started for Milwaukee and went 6
2/3 innings, surrendering only three runs -- one earned -- on seven hits
while striking out four and walking two. Guillermo Mota (1-2) took the loss
after he gave up three runs in the ninth.

Chicago, IL - Alfonso Soriano drove in three runs and Ted
Lilly struck out a season-high 11 batters, as the Chicago Cubs downed the San
Diego Padres, 8-5, in the third test of a four-game series at Wrigley Field.
Lilly (4-4) gave up four runs on six hits over six innings to pick up his
third straight win. Geovany Soto hit a two-run homer and added an RBI
single for the Cubs, who have won five of their last six games. Kosuke
Fukudome was 3-for-5 and scored two runs, while Mark DeRosa and Ryan Theriot
both finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. The Padres' Jake Peavy (4-3) lasted
only four innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts
to absorb the loss. Wilfredo Ledezma surrendered three runs on five hits
in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Tadahito Iguchi knocked in three runs for San
Diego, which has dropped two of its last three contests.

St. Louis, MO - Todd Wellemeyer tossed seven-plus innings of
one-run ball, and the Cardinals offense rattled off 15 hits to get back in the
win column with a 5-1 victory over the red-hot Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch
Stadium. Wellemeyer (4-1) allowed just two singles and three walks, while
fanning five for St. Louis, which had dropped three in a row and six of seven.
Troy Glaus and Cesar Izturis each tallied three hits and knocked in a run,
while Rick Ankiel, Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina recorded two hits apiece in
victory. Pittsburgh had won seven of its last eight, but Paul Maholm (2-4)
was touched for 11 hits and four runs in his six-inning start. Nate
McLouth logged the Pirates' only RBI in the second contest of this three-game
set.

Phoenix, AZ - Micah Owings tossed six scoreless innings,
and Orlando Hudson went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in to lift the Arizona
Diamondbacks to a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Owings (5-1) gave up
only five hits and two walks while striking out five for the Diamondbacks,
who have won the first two contests of this three-game set after being swept
in a three-game series at Chicago. Stephen Drew had a pair of hits and scored
a run, while Conor Jackson went 1-for-3 with a walk and RBI. Jorge De La Rosa
(1-2) lasted only 4 2/3 innings after surrendering four runs on seven hits
and three walks. He struck out six in the losing effort, the Rockies' fourth
straight loss. Todd Helton was 3-for-4 while Ryan Spilborghs had two hits and
an RBI for the Rockies.
Final Score: Houston 6, San Francisco 3
San Francisco, CA - Miguel Tejada had three hits and drove
in two runs as the Houston Astros doubled up the San Francisco Giants,
6-3, in the third test of a four-game series at AT&T Park. Brian Moehler
gave up three runs on eight hits in five innings but did not factor into
the decision for Houston. Oscar Villarreal (1-3) recorded the final out in
the sixth inning to pick up the win. Lance Berkman and Brad Ausmus both
hit two-run homers for the Astros, who improved to 10-2 in the month of May.
Hunter Pence finished 2-for-4 and scored a run. Pat Misch gave up three runs
on seven hits and struck out six over six innings for the Giants, who have
dropped seven of their last 10 outings. Jack Taschner (2-1) took the loss
after yielding the go-ahead run in the seventh. Aaron Rowand provided the
offense with a two-run homer. Ray Durham, Bengie Molina, John Bowker and
Jose Castillo each collected two hits.
