Cincinnati, OH - Robinson Cancel scored the go-ahead run on Edwin Encarnacion's throwing error in the top of the 10th inning and the New York Mets bested the Cincinnati Reds, 7-5, to salvage a split of a four- game set at Great American Ball Park. New York starter Mike Pelfrey went seven innings and allowed five runs on six hits before giving way to Duaner Sanchez (5-1), who tossed two scoreless frames to pick up the victory. Billy Wagner struck out the side in the 10th to collect his 24th save. Jose Reyes finished 4-for-6 with a triple and three runs scored for the Mets, who are 13-4 in the month of July. Carlos Delgado was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in, while Ramon Castro belted a two-run homer. Edinson Volquez lasted only five innings for the Reds, giving up four runs on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts in a no-decision. Bill Bray (2-1) surrendered two unearned runs in the 10th to take the loss. Adam Dunn, Brandon Phillips and Encarnacion each had a solo home run for Cincinnati, which has lost three of its last five.

Miami, FL - Jorge Cantu drove in the game-winning run in the 11th inning to propel the Marlins to a 3-2 comeback win in 11 innings over the Phillies in the rubber match of their three-game series at Dolphin Stadium. In the 11th, Cantu came up with the bases loaded and drove a ball off the left field wall for the game-winning single. Josh Johnson was making his second start since coming back from Tommy John surgery, and threw 6 2/3 solid innings -- his longest outing since August 2006 -- giving up two runs and seven hits while striking out four and walking three. Jeremy Hermida and Cody Ross each added a solo home run for the Marlins, who have won six of eight. Doug Waechter (2-2) got the win after throwing a scoreless 11th inning. Cole Hamels failed again to get his 10th win, but still turned in a fine performance by throwing eight innings on two runs and four hits. The Phillies ace lefty struck out seven and walked two in his eighth quality start in his last nine games, going seven innings or more for the 18th time in his 21 starts. Clay Condrey (2-2) received the loss when he failed to record an out in the 11th inning on three hits and a walk. Ryan Howard drove in both Philadelphia runs on two hits, while Shane Victorino also had a pair of hits, as the Phillies lost their second straight game after winning five of six.

Atlanta, GA - Willie Harris homered and drove in five runs, as the Washington Nationals annihilated the Atlanta Braves 15-6, in the finale of a three-game set. Harris was 2-for-3 with three walks while Felipe Lopez batted 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Austin Kearns homered among three hits, two RBI and tied a franchise record with five runs scored while Jesus Flores had a career-high five hits with two RBI and two runs scored. Odalis Perez (3-7) got his first win since May 28, allowing five runs on nine hits through five frames while fanning four and walking two for Washington, which took the final two games of the series from Atlanta after dropping three straight. Jo-Jo Reyes (3-9) was hammered for six runs on seven hits and four walks and a strikeout in just 2 1/3 innings of work. Reyes has won just once in 11 starts, dropping eight decisions overall and five in a row. Mark Teixeira smacked two home runs in a three-hit effort with three RBI, and Martin Prado added a two-run shot for Atlanta, which dropped the final two contests to the Nationals following a three-game win streak.

Houston, TX - Ryan Dempster hurled eight scoreless innings, as the Chicago Cubs avoided a three-game series sweep by their division rival Houston, 9-0, at Minute Maid Park. Dempster (11-4) was dominating, surrendering just six hits and a walk while striking out seven for the victory. Mike Fontenot was 3-for-4 with a home run, double, three RBI and scored three runs while Ryan Theriot had three hits and two RBI with a run scored. Derrek Lee knocked in three with two hits and scored once for Chicago, which snapped a three-game skid. Brandon Backe (6-10) scattered eight hits and four runs without walking a batter as the hard-luck loser. The right-hander fanned eight over 6 2/3 innings. Carlos Lee had two of Houston's six hits as the 'Stros went without an extra-base hit and had their four-game winning streak halted.

Final Score: St. Louis 9, San Diego 5

St. Louis, MO - Aaron Miles' grand slam home run in the ninth gave the St. Louis Cardinals a 9-5 win and complete a four-game sweep of the San Diego Padres. Bryan Corey started the inning on the mound and got the first out when Jason LaRue led off with a ground out. Albert Pujols then walked and moved all the way to third as Luke Carlin's throw to first on a pickoff attempt went into right field. After intentional walks to Yadier Molina and Skip Schumaker, Miles belted a 2-1 fastball into the bullpen in right field for the win. Troy Glaus went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer while Rick Ankiel and Pujols each drove in a run for the Cardinals, who have won five straight. Brad Thompson (2-2) got the win while Jaime Garcia gave up three runs on five hits over five innings in his first career start. Scott Hairston went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored for the Padres, who have dropped their last six games. Cha Seung Baek went 6 1/3 innings and gave up two runs -- one earned -- on six hits along with a walk and three strikeouts. He also had his first career home run, a two-run shot in the fifth inning.

Denver, CO - Jeff Baker hit a two-run homer and Matt Holliday added a solo shot, as the Colorado Rockies crushed the Pittsburgh Pirates, 11-3, to sweep the four-game set. Ian Stewart had two doubles and finished with three RBI for the Rockies, who have won four straight after dropping the previous four. Aaron Cook (12-6) was convincing on the mound in a winning effort, going seven strong and giving up three runs on five hits. Nate McLouth and Adam LaRoche had an RBI each for the Pirates, who have dropped five straight and seven of nine overall. Zach Duke (4-7) took the loss as he was roughed up for nine runs on 10 hits over five frames.

Final Score: Milwaukee 7, San Francisco 4

San Francisco, CA - Manny Parra dazzled through 7 2/3 frames, bolstered by a pair of home runs from Ryan Braun and Corey Hart, as the Milwaukee Brewers completed the three-game sweep of San Francisco with a 7-4 victory at AT&T Park. Parra (9-2) allowed a two-run double with two gone in the eighth as one of seven hits to go along with two walks while striking out a season-high nine. Parra has won his last eight decisions, last falling to Houston back on May 3. Braun made his two hits count with a three-run homer and a two-run double while Parra and Hart each had an RBI. J.J. Hardy added two hits and scored twice for Milwaukee, which has won four straight. The big news of the day for Milwaukee came before the game, as it was being reported that the club acquired second baseman Ray Durham from the Giants for several prospects. It was later confirmed after the game that the deal was finalized between the clubs, with San Francisco getting pitcher Steve Hammond and outfielder Darren Ford. Tim Lincecum (11-3), back after a bout with the flu that caused him to miss the All-Star game, showed no ill effects but was hurt by two home runs in giving up five runs on six hits and four walks over six-plus innings. The hard-throwing righty fanned eight in losing for the second time in his last three starts after starting the year 10-1. Jose Castillo had two hits, two RBI and a run scored while Aaron Rowand knocked in two with a double. Emmanuel Burriss added two hits and scored a run for San Francisco, which has now lost nine of its last 10 overall.

Final Score: Los Angeles 6, Arizona 5

Phoenix, AZ - Ramon Troncoso picked up his first major league win and Russell Martin drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth, and the Los Angeles Dodgers used a five-run ninth to edge the Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-5, in the rubber match of a weekend set. Troncoso (1-1) earned the win by tossing two innings and fanning five batters. Jonathan Broxton got his second save of the year despite giving up a run in the ninth. Derek Lowe lasted 5 1/3 innings and was touched for four runs on seven hits while striking out six and walking three. The win allowed the Dodgers to move into a tie with Arizona for the top spot in the NL West. Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Andruw Jones each had a hit and an RBI for the Dodgers, who have won 3-of-4 overall. Blake DeWitt also drove in a run and Andy LaRoche had a pinch-hit RBI. Stephen Drew and Mark Reynolds had a triple and an RBI apiece for the Diamondbacks, who have dropped 3-of-4. Brandon Lyon (2-4) absorbed the loss as he gave up five runs on five hits in the ninth. Lyon has yielded seven runs in his last two outings. Brandon Webb was in shape to become MLB's first 14-game winner before the blown save, going eight frames on just one run and six hits, fanning four and walking three.
