St. Louis, MO - Bill Hall started a three-run rally in the 10th inning with a home run, and Milwaukee pulled out a 6-3 win over St. Louis, in the opener of a four-game series between two teams now tied in the loaded National League Central. Hall finished with three hits and Rickie Weeks hit a three-run homer. J.J. Hardy was 4-for-6 with an RBI while Jason Kendall doubled twice for the Brewers. Troy Glaus doubled twice with two RBI and Skip Schumaker was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk for the Cardinals. Both teams are in the chase for first place in the NL Central, with each team just two games back of the Cubs, who fell to Arizona 2-0 on Monday. Milwaukee extended its winning streak to five games while St. Louis saw a five-game winning streak snapped.

Final Score: San Diego 6, Cincinnati 4

Cincinnati, OH - Kevin Kouzmanoff drove in the go-ahead runs with a two-run double in the ninth inning, and San Diego held on for a 6-4 win over Cincinnati, in the opener of a three-game set with the Reds. Kouzmanoff finished 2-for-4 with three runs batted in, while Scott Hairston went 2- for-3 with a home run for the Padres, who snapped a six-game losing streak. Josh Banks gave up four runs on seven hits in a 5 2/3 inning start, but didn't factor into the decision. Clay Hensley (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings to take the win. Trevor Hoffman worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to nail down his 18th save of the season. Homer Bailey was solid in his start for Cincinnati, which has lost two in a row. The rookie gave up just three runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 frames, but took a no-decision, and the Reds fell to 0-5 when he starts. Francisco Cordero (4-3) gave up three runs in the ninth inning and absorbed the loss. Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 606th career homer, a two-run shot, while Edwin Encarnacion also homered as part of a 2-for-3 performance.

Miami, FL - Jorge Campillo pitched seven innings of two-hit ball as the Atlanta Braves blanked the Florida Marlins, 4-0, in the opener of a three-game set at Dolphin Stadium. Campillo (5-4) walked just one batter while striking out six in his second straight win for the Braves, who have won four of their last six. Mark Teixeira and Mark Kotsay each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the win. Jeremy Hermida and Mike Jacobs each had a hit in the loss for the Marlins, who had won six of eight coming in. Chris Volstad (2-1) got the start and gave up three runs on six hits over six innings of work to pick up his first career loss.

Final Score: Pittsburgh 9, Houston 3

Houston, TX - Freddy Sanchez drove in four runs, including a three-run inside-the-park homer, as the Pittsburgh Pirates used a seven- run ninth to upend Houston, 9-3, in the opener of a three-game series at Minute Maid Park. Sanchez had three hits and scored two runs while Jason Bay tied the game in the ninth with a solo shot as part of a four-hit effort. Adam LaRoche hit what was the go-ahead, two-run homer following Bay in the ninth while Nate McLouth and Xavier Nady had three hits apiece, helping Pittsburgh snap a five-game losing streak. Tyler Yates (4-2) was handed the win after tossing a scoreless eighth. Carlos Lee had two RBI singles and Brad Ausmus was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kazuo Matsui notched three hits in defeat, scoring once for Houston, which dropped its second straight after a four-game win streak.

Final Score: Los Angeles 16, Colorado 10

Denver, CO - James Loney went 3-for-6, drove in five runs and scored twice as Los Angeles used an avalanche of early runs to get by Colorado, 16-10, in the first of a three-game series at Coors Field. Andre Ethier, Jeff Kent and Angel Berroa each picked up two RBI for the Dodgers, who scored in each of the first five innings to record their fourth win in five games. Russell Martin added three hits, three runs scored and one knocked in as Los Angeles posted season-highs with 16 runs and 18 hits. Brian Falkenborg (2-2) got the win by going 1 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and a run. Starter Eric Stults allowed six hits and three runs over 3 2/3 innings, driving in a run despite the no-decision. Matt Holliday and Brad Hawpe both registered three hits and three RBI for the Rockies, whose four- game win streak was snapped despite rallying from an 11-0 deficit and collecting 20 hits. Ian Stewart also drove in two. Troy Tulowitzki, making his first start since coming off the 15-day disabled list with a hand injury, had a career-high five hits with an RBI and a run scored. Starter Kip Wells (1-2), who was activated from the 60-day disabled list prior to the contest, had a horrendous outing. He lasted just one-third of an inning, charged with seven hits and eight runs -- seven earned.

Phoenix, AZ - Randy Johnson was stellar on the hill to pick up career win number 291, and the Arizona Diamondbacks edged the Chicago Cubs, 2-0, in the opener of a three-game set. Johnson (7-7) allowed just two hits over seven innings while striking out four and walking one to move to 13-0 lifetime against the Cubs. Chad Qualls worked out of trouble in the ninth to pick up his second save of the season. Alex Romero hit a solo home run and Stephen Drew had an RBI triple, the only two hits for Arizona, which has only three wins in its last seven contests. Rich Harden (0-1) was the hard-luck loser as he allowed just one hit -- the Romero home run -- while fanning 10 and walking just two batters in his second start for Chicago. The right- hander, who was acquired from Oakland along with swingman Chad Gaudin on July 8, has allowed just one run in 12 1/3 innings of work since the trade. Reed Johnson and Jim Edmonds accounted for the only Chicago hits, as the Cubs dropped their fourth contest in the last five games.
