The "rake" is the money that the casino/house charges for each hand of poker. It is normally a percentage (5-10%) or a flat fee that is taken from the pot after each round of betting.

The rake schedule varies depending on the card room. Even before the introduction of our Get Paid to Play program, World Sports Exchange had a very competitive rake schedule. We still use that same schedule — the only difference is that we now return 65% of the rake to our players each week. Click here for our full rake schedule.

Contrary to popular belief, the rake isn't just taken after a hand is completed and before a pot is awarded; rather, the house takes the rake from the pot incrementally after each round of betting in a hand. Therefore, the rake is essentially paid by everyone involved in a pot, not just the winner of each hand.

So in order to be a profitable poker player, you must both outsmart your opponents and overcome the rake — unless you're playing at World Poker Exchange. The past week's amount (based on the Pay structure located here) is returned to each player's account every Monday, normally by 2 PM ET.

Included in the Lobby, Cashier and Poker Room table, you will see an up-to-date calculation of your estimated Pay. This value is based on your current Rake and Single Table Tournament Fee contribution. As you play more, these values will increase.

Unlike most online poker rooms, WSEX has many revenue streams, including the World Sports Exchange sportsbook and casino. The money which the house obtains from the rake (minus your "Pay") will be used to fuel added money and guaranteed money events, along with allowing for an increased marketing budget; as well as a piece for select affiliates. This will allow us to grow the Poker network, as well as make WSEX known as THE poker site that truly pays to play.

Each player's weekly "Pay" is determined by the amount of rake taken during each hand into which he/she is dealt. In ring games, all players at the table who are not sitting out or waiting for the big blind take part in the rake distribution. You can always see your current Pay Status in the Poker Lobby, at the Poker Table or by selecting the "Cashier" button in the game client.
