Rake Back: FAQs

What exactly is the "rake"?
The “rake” is the money that the casino/house charges for each hand of poker. It is normally a percentage (typically 5-10%) or a flat fee that is taken from the pot after each round of betting.

The rake schedule varies depending on the card room. Even before the introduction of our Rake Back poker, World Poker Exchange had a very competitive rake schedule. We still use the same schedule – the only difference is that we now return 75% of the rake to our players each week. Click here for our full rake schedule.

Contrary to popular belief, the rake isn’t just taken after a hand is completed and before a pot is awarded; rather, the house takes the rake from the pot incrementally after each round of betting in a hand. Therefore, the rake is essentially “paid” by everyone involved in a pot, not just the winner of each hand.

So in order to be a profitable poker player, you must both outsmart your opponents and overcome the rake – unless you’re playing at World Poker Exchange. By ensuring savings of up to hundreds or even thousands of dollars a week, our Rake Back poker gives all of our players their best chance ever to become long-term, consistent winners.

When is the rake returned?
The week’s 75% rake amount is returned to each player’s account every Monday, normally by 2 PM ET.

Why does the rake meter read $0.00 when I have not yet received my rake?
The rake amount is tabulated on a weekly basis, from Monday at 12:00 AM to Sunday at 11:59 PM ET. The meter is therefore reset to $0.00 every Monday at 12:00 AM ET, and will remain at $0.00 until your rebate is credited to your account later the same day. Once the rake has been credited to your account, the meter will show your rake rebate total for the current week.

How long will World Poker Exchange offer Rake Back poker?
We fully intend to remain a Rake Back site on a permanent basis, in order to firmly establish World Poker Exchange and World Sports Exchange as the go-to sites for the online gambling community.

How does WPX profit if it is Rake Back?
Unlike most online poker rooms, WPX has many revenue streams, including the World Sports Exchange sportsbook and casino. For more details on how our Rake Back poker is possible click here. The 25% which the house obtains from the rake will be used to fuel added money and guaranteed money events, along with allowing for an increased marketing budget; as well as a piece for select affiliates. This will allow us to help grow Rake Back poker in an effort to provide the best place to play poker on the net. A poker site that truly pays to play.

How is the rake return calculated?
Each player’s weekly rake rebate is determined by the amount of rake taken during each hand into which he/she is dealt, and the amount he/she pays in tournament fees. In ring games, all players at the table who are not sitting out or waiting for the big blind take part in the rake distribution.
